The McMinn County Education Foundation Youth Leadership program honors students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades who exemplify leadership qualities at school and in the community.
APPLICATION PROCESS
The winning students are chosen through a blind selection process by MCEF Board Members and community leaders. In March of each year, these students are recognized at a ceremony held at Tennessee Wesleyan University's (TWU) Townsend Auditorium. They receive a medal and certificate and are invited to a Day on Campus the following October at TWU during which they tour campus, have lunch, and attend three classes taught by TWU professors to give them an exclusive glimpse into what college life will be like.
APPLICATION PROCESS
- Students submit an application that includes activities in which they are active and awards they have won.
- Included in the application are recommendations from two adults who have witnessed them in their leadership roles.
- The students also write an essay about their leadership goals for the future.
